A vegan caramel sauce recipe made with olive oil and maple syrup?? Yes! And our twist on it brings it to a whole new level of foodgasm! The Internet is a’buzz with @fitgreenmind’s viral TikTok video showing a very simple recipe, or hack if you will, of taking olive oil, maple syrup, and a pinch of salt, and turning it into smooth, delicious caramel sauce. And it does produce a delicious caramel sauce, but our hack takes it far beyond delicious to “ohmygod” heights.

And the trend has already gone worldwide. As New Delhi TV explains, @fitgreenmind, whose real name is Maya Leinenbach, “claims that this method will yield the “silkiest olive oil caramel”. She suggests using it as a topping for vanilla ice cream, among other uses. In {her TikTok reel}, she actually does so and shows her positive reaction to it. In the caption, she also states that the ‘caramel’ can be stored in the fridge for up to a week.”

Now, this is not as outlandish as it may seem at first glance. Traditional caramel sauce recipes nearly all call for butter, cream, and sugar. In other words, to make a delicious caramel sauce you need fat and something sweet. In the olive oil and maple syrup recipe, the olive oil takes the place of the fat from the butter and cream, while the maple syrup provides the something sweet, and together they provide the mouthfeel.

The basic gist of the recipe couldn’t be simpler. You combine olive oil, maple syrup, and a dash of salt, and whisk it until it is fully incorporated. And that’s it!

The appeal of the recipe is obvious. It’s very easy to make, and you can whip it up on the fly with ingredients that you almost certainly already have on hand. And, of course, for our purposes, it’s vegan! (And, yes, gluten-free, although that’s a given here.)

But here’s our twist: We recently came across this wonderful small, family-owned company that creates incredible flavored maple syrups, all organic, all small-batch made by hand. And when we say incredible, like Oh. My. God. incredible. This is no artificially flavored syrup like you find at the supermarket.

Here is their mission statement:

At WytchWood, our mission transcends the boundaries of commerce; it is a calling to serve the community and make a positive impact. We believe in the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, recognizing that true well-being arises from nurturing all aspects of ourselves. We aspire to create a world where every child experiences a magical and golden childhood, free from harm and filled with love. Thus, we have committed ourselves to philanthropy, supporting charities that aid children in need. At checkout, you too can donate to Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a charity for children fighting cancer. We believe that by using our platform and financial stability, we can help create a brighter future for the young ones who deserve our love and care. This care also starts from the womb, as WytchWood employees benefit from excellent maternity and paternity leave policies. We also care considerably and deeply about the natural world around us and are always trying to update our practices to better serve our planet and its environment for all creatures great and small.

We tried their Dark Chocolate & Black Cherry Maple Syrup (called ‘Lucifer’ and flavored with dark cocoa beans and organic black cherry), their Rose & Cardamom Maple Syrup (called ‘Aphrodite’ and flavored with organic rose and cardamom syrup), and their Gingerbread and Marshmallow maple syrup (called ‘Baba Yaga’ and flavored with organic ginger marshmallow syrup). The Lucifer is incredible, but actually for the olive oil and maple syrup caramel sauce we preferred the Baba Yaga, especially to drizzle over vanilla ice cream or some sort of cake. But really you can’t go wrong with any of their flavors; they have more than twenty flavors, including strawberry, blackberry & cinnamon, and ghost pepper mango!

Sinfully Flavored TikTok Olive Oil and Maple Syrup Caramel Sauce

Ingredients

1/3 to 1/2 cup good olive oil (depending on your taste)
1/2 cup maple syrup, chilled (plain is fine but using a WytchWood flavored syrup takes it to a whole new level)
dash of salt

Directions

This is one of those recipes that you can actually just do by proportions, so you can make as much or as little as you want. If you are doing equal parts olive oil and maple syrup that makes it really easy – you can even just do a tablespoon of each to experiment (for example if you, like us, end up ordering three flavors from WytchWood 😉 ).

Just add the olive oil, maple syrup, and dash of salt to a bowl (you can use a chilled metal bowl if you like) and whisk it until smooth, then serve it over ice cream, pound cake, or, hey, just eat it from the spoon. You can also add a sprinkling of cinnamon or red pepper to give it a bit of zing as a counter to the cool sweetness of, for example, vanilla ice cream.

If you want to give them a try, you can order Wytchwood’s organic maple syrups from their site at WytchWood.com. (This is NOT an affiliate link, we just love them!)
